This site may soon drift off into history...

Some of you may have received an email regarding this site. This posting is to clarify what has taken place as I know it and was reported to me by a Fire Department officer on 7/29/08.

It appears that someone has initiated creation of a replacement web site for the Acton Fire Department. This site now appears to be active at http://www.actonfire.org, and is essentially a carbon copy of some of the content at this site.

So I'm awaiting word from the powers that be what they want me to do with this site. There's no sense in having two official web sites for the Department as this would simply cause confusion for the citizens. Honestly, I had anticipated that the FD web site would get rolled into the town web site at some point in the future, but that does not appear to be the case here. As some of you have probably heard, this is an entirely new domain name, along with a recurring domain name fee and domain hosting fee. So I'm not sure if all of this was a lack of understanding by some involved parties, a result of some bad advice, an intentional act, or a mixture of these factors.

NOTE: Those FD members who have actonfd.org email addresses - these addresses may cease to function as a result of this action, so be prepared.

The only thing I wish would have taken place is for someone to discuss this with me and tell me what was planned, and perhaps get my permission to use the artwork (if you can call it that!) and pictures on the site - most of which were created by me, some noted otherwise. Or, maybe even offer to take over management of the site. I had a snazzy content management system I was thinking about putting on it. But, I'm not really losing anything, the domain name fee was reimbursed to me by the FD, and I never charged a hosting or design fee.

The actonfd.org domain name is active until December, so something will be here at least until then. At this point, I'm not sure what.

So, stay tuned and we'll see what the future brings!
